Norway 2026

The Hurtigruten Coastal journey starts at Bergen and follows the coast to Kirkenes close to the Russian border. It then journeys back to Bergen. It stops at many ports and towns on the journey since it doubles as a service for the inhabitants along the coast.

Sailing north the ship enters dramatic fjords, quiet fishing harbours, and the Arctic waters toward Kirkenes. Here are a few snapshot memories.

Alesund is one of the many ports visited by the Nordnorge. It was redeveloped after a devastating fire in 1904 in an Art Nouveau style with manpower and materials  donated by Kaiser Willem II of Germany.

The ship visits many fjords but the most impressive with its narrow channel and steep sides is the Trollfjord. Its only smaller ships like th Hurtigruten ferries that can enter this fjord and have the space and maneoverability to turn around.

North Cape is the northernmost point in Europe that can be accessed by car. There's a steep cliff which is over 300m high. The ship carried on past there to Kirkenes before turning back.

Trolls of course are everywhere in Norway. Here are two we met in a museum.
