Borneo is the third largest island in the world. It is split between Malaysia in the north, Indonesia in the south and the small independent state of Brunei.
Borneo has 21.3 million inhabitants (2014). Most of the people live in coastal cities although the hinterland has small towns and villages along the rivers.
