The Huntingdons

Huntington is an English surname of Anglo-Saxon origin. It is associated with several places named Huntington or Huntingdon in Cheshire, Yorkshire, Herefordshire, and Staffordshire, England. The name is derived from “the hill of the huntsman” and appears in the Domesday Book. Early entries in my family tree use the spelling Huntington, while later records use Huntingdon.

In the late 19th century, the highest density of the surname was concentrated in Northern England—specifically Lancashire, which was home to roughly 32% of all recorded Huntington families in the UK in 1891.
